About Denman Island Museum & Archives
Welcome to Denman Island’s story and people. We love our island in the Salish Sea and want you to know all about the history of this beautiful place. There’s been a lot happen here starting with the first nations who thrived on the island for thousands of years before white settlement and have claim to the island to this day. Settlers, old farming families, remittance men, loggers and farmers, and latterly hippies and social activists have all shaped the heritage of Denman.
This year we are featuring two new displays, the Back-to-Landers from the hippy era starting in 1970, and a retrospective on Denman’s United Church and Gatherng Place, founded in 1883. Read more about these displays in Doug and the Slugs versus God.
Summer Hours – Sunday to Saturday: July 1st to August 31st: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
At other times please contact Barry Landeen at 250 335 0960 : blandeen@gmail.com or DD Fuchs at 250 335 1413 : tdfuchs@telus.net
Although we are are open to the public only seasonally, we are always available to answer questions or show you around. We learn from our visitors! Though staffed entirely by volunteers, we meet regularly all year round and are always working on displays, outreach projects, and new accessions of objects and records.
