About Chuck Wagon & Produce Shack
About Chuck Wagon & Produce Shack
This working farm agricultural cooperative is both an outdoor restaurant “The Chuck Wagon”, and a fresh produce shop “The Produce Shack”. Together they are the Shack & Wagon, just a 5-minute stroll from the Village.
Sit at picnic tables, lounge in a hammock by a fire pit, and enjoy the music and atmosphere while your meal is cooked nearby in a converted wagon.
Stroll the grounds to see antiques and a heritage barn, or cross the road to a public beach access with a natural reef, small light house and shallow waters suitable for small children.
Open Friday to Sunday from Noon – 7 p.m. Also Thursdays during July & August!
Tip: Call in your order in advance!
Chuck Wagon Menu
Creative burgers, fries, fish & chips, tacos, chicken, Vegan options, and a children’s menu!
It’s so popular, it’s best to call in your order ahead of time to avoid disappointment.
Produce Shack
The quaint little vine-covered produce shack offers farm-fresh tomatoes, corn, salad fixings, squash, carrots, beets, and more. Also local baked goods and souvenirs.
About the Owner
The Shack and Wagon are operated by Gary Piercy, a descendant of the Piercy family that have been farming at this property since 1875. Gary is also a cartoonist – you can see his work in the weekly Islands Grapevine newspaper and on his signs and menus. He is also the artist who created the painted Denman Island map on the General Store.
Customer Comments
“If you can get a Polly chicken Burger or sweet poutine or chipotle Dry Ribs, add the great music and the incredible view of the mountains … your lunch or your meal their will be the best on Denman Island….” ~ Eric R.
“First time Shack visitors from Calgary. Funky farm universe with music! Gorgeous view and the food is delicious. Call ahead and the wait won’t be long at all but you can always stroll this heritage farm from the turn of last century while you wait. The barn alone can melt hours into minutes. Eat your lunch at one of the tables, hammock or chairs or wander around and view the many artifacts and antiques that were felled by the march of time. A small path at the end of the driveway leads to the beach where during low tide you can walk to a small lighthouse.” ~ Evan B.
“Awesome grilled food from an authentic chuck waggon with a diverse menu; the highlight being a selection of burgers as creative and amazing as their names (some so full you may need a fork to finish!), good fries and onion rings too.
You can call ahead, get fresh fruit and veggies from The Shack (where you order if not calling); then enjoy your food on a beach themed fire pit in a hammock, at a bench in the sun watching the clouds get caught like wool on the tops of Van Isl’ mountains or walk down to the beach and enjoy your food on the shore.” ~ Rem S.
