About Ima's Kitchen - Bakery & Ice Cream
Ima’s Kitchen is a small-scale middle eastern inspired bakery based on Denman Island. All breads are hand-mixed in small batches using 100% organic flour and biodegradable packaging.
They also make ice cream (popsicles, fudgesicles, ice cream cups, chocolate-dipped waffle cones, ice cream sandwiches) and all of their ice cream is vegan and gluten free!
Many of their creations include local farm fresh and wild additions like nettle pesto, garlic, and blackberries.
Why Ima’s? (pronounced EE-mah) “Ima” means “mum” in Hebrew. They aim to make comforting, healthy, and simple food, just like you would find in your Ima’s kitchen!

About the Owners:
BC-born Bronwynne and Israeli-born Yogev (Yogi) have been living on Denman Island for 7 years. They came here on a whim after travelling for a few years. While getting to know different people on Denman and attending various potlucks they began to notice people really enjoyed their baking, which eventually led to them deciding to sell at the Saturday Market. Their baking is inspired by the markets of Israel (think large piles of fresh, hot, pitas covered in olive oil and za’atar). All of their bread is hand mixed and baked in their hearth oven. Their sourdough breads are made from scratch using their own wild-yeasted starter.
When they decided to turn an attached storage room of their house into a bakery they received an outpouring of support from the community. It did not take long to raise the money to install the power and water requirements to be able to open officially.
Their family now includes a very active 3-year-old daughter who loves to help with the baking and selling at the farmers market.
“3 years ago, we started baking bread for the market. By the second year we could not keep up with the demand! So, we invested in a large commercial hearth oven…and a bakery was born!”
